He nurtured that company's growth, and was its most active cheerleader until it was acquired in late 2018 by the Trampoline Group. Now, the Managing Director of Trampoline’s digital and studio, aptly named Twist & Bits, he is living and breathing both his business and yours.

At bits.co, we’re (almost) as excited about other companies’ projects as we are about our own, so naturally, we were pretty keen to hear what next offering Apple was putting out. Finally, after months of anticipation, the ambitious tech giant finally announced its latest products and updates Monday at its annual 2014 Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.
A few months ago I was faced with a tough decision. The decision to pack up my life in St. John’s, Newfoundland and move to Halifax.
Moving was something that had been in the back of my mind for a few months at that point. It’s not that I was unhappy; I just needed a change. I was feeling “stuck” in my job, and perhaps even a little lost with my personal life. So when I saw the opportunity for the position here at bits.co, I jumped on it.
I had coffee with a colleague the other day and recounted the tale of how bits.co came to be. When I finished, he looked across the table and made an appropriate, yet smart-assed remark about how lucky I had it. Obviously, we both knew that I didn’t just walk into my local hardware store one day and get handed a large contract from a multinational client.
Just over a year ago, my team made a big decision. After 3 years of pretty well strictly being a development shop called upon by larger agencies, we put on our big boy pants and declared, “We’re an agency, too, dammit!” With that, our focus shifted, our confidence grew, and we were off.
I’ve been holding onto this post for awhile now. Partially because it’s a hard one to write, but mostly as I did not want the timing of it to come off as exploitative or self-serving, due to its nature. Last year was a tough year. For the first time, I saw the life of someone near and dear to me end extremely short. Not once, but twice.
Growing up a little shorter than the rest doesn’t always seem that glamorous but let me tell you why it is. Hide and seek is easier when you fit into small spaces, short people are built low to the ground for action (said well by my brother in his adolescence and very important for contact sports), and everyone lets you get a bit closer to the stage at concerts. Plus, anything miniature is good in my books; ponies, cupcakes, and puppies… Small is cute, and small is also powerful.
