Brewing Social Engagement

Background

The Halifax Seaport Beerfest is the largest gathering of craft beers, imports, and ciders on the East Coast, featuring beer producers from across Canada and around the world. It’s also one of the city’s most popular events and as the Bits team is known to enjoy a glass or two of ale, we were happy to help them expand and engage their audience.

Challenge

Having worked with Bits in the past, Beerfest approached us this time looking to leverage our social media expertise to better communicate with their social audience. Our goals were to increase engagement, increase overall festival awareness, and to sell more tickets before the event.

Approach

The Bits team went to work developing creative ways we could use social media to keep Beerfest relevant and top of mind among key influencers throughout the entire year and then ramping up to more active community management in the month or before the event. Using Twitter and Facebook, we developed a content calendar that outlined a plan of action for social posts leading up to the event and used a strategy where every post had a specific focus to either engage, educate, or entertain the user. We created content that introduced different breweries, entertainment, and food vendors that would be at the event to give the audience regular “sneak peeks”.

9,000 people

within the intended event demographic.

Solution

By providing Beerfest with an in-depth social media strategy, implementing that strategy, and managing Beerfest’s social community, there was an increase in engagement levels and followers, and best of all, the festival sold out in record time. The attendees loved sharing their Beerfest experience on social media and we were live tweeting on site to interact with them (and sample the wares, of course!).

Next Step

With the learnings we gathered this year, we’re ready to crack open Beerfest 2017. We'll continue to leverage their social community year-round to maintain interest and top of mind awareness and increase the volume of relevant posts as the event approaches. Cheers!
