Last year, with the spirit of the Holiday season in full swing, our team sat down to brainstorm our design for the annual Bits Creative Agency holiday greeting card. As we pondered our options (naturally, a photo shoot of all of our dogs in antlers was a viable suggestion), the discussion turned to how we could make a greater impact through this yearly endeavour. That’s the moment we decided to forego the typical custom creation of our own cards, instead, we took the time and resources we would have spent, and donated them to a worthy charitable cause on behalf of Bits Creative and our awesome clients.
That act of giving stayed with us all year long, and has inspired us to make it a new tradition, embracing the true meaning of the season - giving rather than receiving. To spread the love throughout the community, we opted to pick another deserving locally-run charity for 2017, Out of the Cold (OTC).
This amazing group of volunteers has been providing shelter and community support to people who are homeless and precariously housed, for over 8 years. They open their doors on a low-barrier, emergency basis during winter months to anyone seeking relief and safety from the freezing temperatures.
OTC provides an up-to-date list of items they are currently in need of on their website, which is super helpful for people looking to donate. With said list in hand, our Bits elves headed off on a shopping spree for a great cause.
Many of our own personal wish lists are probably filled with things we want versus need, so it was truly humbling to take a moment to appreciate how much we all have to be thankful for. The holidays are also a great time of year to consider how we can all help make a difference within our community. Giving gives us a greater sense of gratitude, and we feel it’s kinda contagious, so we’re passing it on!
Best wishes for a happy holidays and a wonderful New Year, from the entire team at Bits Creative.
